Founded in Älmhult, Sweden in 1974, ELME has dedicated thirty years of research and development to a complete programme of spreaders for the handling of containers, swop bodies and trailers. Started as a one man acitivity, the ELME group now employs approximately one hundred highly qualified people, marketing, designing and building some five hundred spreaders annually.
Today, the list of internationally recognised manufacturers relying on these spreaders as the standard work tool for their lift equipment is most impressive. In fact, more than 95% of ELME's annual production is supplied to some fifteen OEM's.
More than six thousand five hundred ELME spreaders will have been delivered to the industry at the end of 2005. Mounted on fork lift trucks, reach stackers, straddle carriers, under rubber tired or rail mounted gantry cranes, mobile harbour cranes and ship-to-shore container cranes, they are being used extensively on all continents. Typical users are port operators, shipping lines, rail roads, inland terminal operators, container manufacturers and repairers, trucking lines and depot operators.
