SubscribeThe new Alimak construction hoist is proving its worth in the restoration of a 27-storey Stockholm office block which is being turned into ultra-modern student apartments.
The twin-car ALIMAK SCANDO 650 hoist has been carrying all the waste materials and equipment during the demolition phase and is expected to be in use throughout the two year construction project.
Alimak construction hoists have earned a global reputation through many years of participation in the most demanding building projects around the world. The hoists can be found wherever there are high demands for safe vertical transportation on site.
Notre Dame, the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Statue of Liberty and the Washington monument are just a few of the world-renowned sites where Alimak construction hoists have been key to the restoration.

The restoration of the high-rise former tax office in Götgatan, Stockholm, is a demanding project - in many ways more so than building a new tower.
The building has been classified as a historical monument, which means the exterior must not be damaged. This is the structure’s first restoration since it opened in 1959. One of the benefits with Alimak hoists is that they have minimal affection on the facades.
The 27-storey building is being turned into 415 student apartments and a new shopping centre. It stands in the heart of an area known as Söder, and the views are impressive.
Access is provided by a twin-car ALIMAK SCANDO 650 19/32 FC construction hoist, with a travelling speed of 54 metres per minute. Starting at the top floor, demolition robots are working their way down the building.
They are transported down to each floor in turn using the SCANDO 650. Demolition materials are handled by compact skid-steer loaders, which are also transported between floors by the hoist.
During the refurbishment work, the Alimak twin-car system is transporting up to 180t of demolition waste down to the ground level every day. “This project is a good example of the efficiency of the new ALIMAK SCANDO 650,” says Carl G Wik.
