Sweden has been a trading nation since the seventh century, and as a member of the EU since 1995, exports have continued to fuel its growth.
It is a country of large land-mass and small population (approximately 9 million), and as such it has to import a wide range of the goods required to fulfil the needs of an advanced Western economy with a high standard of living.
